migono adult groupMigono adult group may not be the biggest group we work with, but they definitely go to show that size is not everything.

Founded: 2004
No. of members: 16 No of children supported by WVP Kenya: 44 District: Bondo |
Whilst sixteen group members makes them the smallest of all our partners, their relentless commitment to and passion for supporting vulnerable children within their community, more than compensates for this, and has inspired us at every turn. The group had been growing kale and tomatoes to support orphans and vulnerable children in the years before we began working with them; no mean feat when you consider the drought-stricken area in which they were doing this. With our support, the group have since the start of 2009, set up and are now running their own 'posho mill', a mill which can grind the staple foods to be found in Kenya - maize! Maize flour forms a part of many Kenyan meals, usually in the form of 'ugali', a Kenyan speciality made from maize flour and water.

Since the opening of their mill in June 2009, the group have already had a turnover of hundreds of thousands of shillings, and are generating fantastic profits which they are able to better support orphans and vulnerable children in their communities. Migono has also helped us identify a number of children who are now enrolled into our scholarship programme. Quite frankly, whoever said that bigger is better, was wrong.
When the members of Migono Adult Group are not busy managing their maize grinding mill, they are helping out with organising and facilitating their local youth team's involvement in our inter-community sports and health education programme. Migono F.C. announced their arrival in style on their debut at our April tournament, picking up the junior boys football title. Not a bad way to introduce yourself!
